Seven tanners from Uzbekistan are attending the All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE) as exhibitors for the first time this year.
Under the Uzbekistan country pavilion and supported by the Uzbek government, the seven companies were exhibiting their ranges of wet-blue, crust or finished leather made from local raw materials for the first time in mainland China.
The pavilion has been co-ordinated by Mr Shokhsulton Mirzaev, Chief Specialist, Directorate of Foreign Trade at Uzcharmsanoat (Association of Leather Producers of Uzbekistan).
Mirzaev told ILM that it was the first time that the companies had exhibited in China and last year the tanners won export orders worth US$10 million. “In the past, we used to sell only wet-blue for export, but now more companies are selling crust and finished leather for export. Additionally, via auditors in India or Pakistan, we are hoping to get two of our companies audited by the LWG in the next year”, he explained.
As well as China, he said that Uzbek tanners were targeting selling their leathers into the footwear segments in Europe, especially Italy, Spain and Portugal. “I see huge opportunities for our companies to export more in the future. They have also been fully supported financially to export and attend overseas trade fairs by the Uzbek government”, he added.
