2025 Annual Meeting
of China Tanners Commission of CLIA was held in Wuji County, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province on
October 26, 2025. The meeting, themed with ‘Heritage & Innovation, Green
Future for Leather’, brought together over 230 participants. Attendees included
industry experts, and representatives from governments of leather production clusters,
local associations, research institutes, tanneries, chemical suppliers,
machinery manufacturers, leather goods manufacturers,
testing institutions, and media from across the country.
The meeting
conducted an in-depth analysis of the industry's economic performance in 2024
and the first eight months of 2025. It also outlined key initiatives currently
being advanced by CLIA. These include securing critical policy exemptions, reacting
to the international trade frictions, developing carbon footprint accounting
methodologies, and formulating national occupational standards. Experts shared
insights on critical topics such as rawhide supply pattern, pathways for
digital and intelligent transformation, and key technologies for green
production.
During panel
discussions, delegates engaged in extensive exchanges on several pressing
issues. These included strategies to cope with intensifying market competition
and steer the industry toward sustainable development, countering the impact of
alternative materials—particularly the misuse of the term "leather"
which disrupts the genuine leather consumer market—and strengthening the
promotion of genuine leather to build a new, positive image for the industry.
The meeting also released ‘Initiative on Resisting Vicious Internal Competition
and Promoting High-Quality Development in the Tanning Industry’ .
