Sports manufacturing and retail group Decathlon has said it remains “fully committed” to the Chinese market.
Its comments came in the wake of reports from business media organisations, including Bloomberg and French daily financial newspaper Les Echos, that Decathlon may be preparing to sell of part of its business in China.
Decathlon has had a presence in the Chinese market for over 30 years and now has more than 200 stores there. The reports said the group was exploring the possibility of selling up to 30% of its business in China and that potential investors had already expressed an interest.
In response, Decathlon said: “We do not comment on market speculation or rumours. We remain fully committed to our long-term growth in China and to our partnerships with Chinese consumers and communities.”
The group said its two-pronged mission, “to move people through the wonders of sport”, and to make the benefits of sport accessible to everyone, remained unchanged.
