Li said that the leather industry is an important part of the light industry, and made a great contribution to the development of light industry. Li pointed out that China's leather industry exports exceeded 100 billion US dollars for the first time, achieving a milestone breakthrough. Furthermore Li made an in-depth analysis of the current economic situation of the leather industry, and predicted the future development trend of the industry.
In 2022, China footwear and fur and products industries achieved the profit growth of 14.0% and 6.4% year-on-year, and the export of the leather industry has maintained substantial growth, the total exports of footwear, travel goods and bags accounted for 86.6%, a slight increase of 2.7 percentage points over the previous year.
The United States is still the largest market for China's leather products exports in 2022, and the exported value to the United States reach to 21.35 billion US dollars. The United States, the European Union, ASEAN, the African Union and Japan are the top five markets for China's leather industry exports, accounting for 19.9%, 17.7%, 16.1%, 6.7%, 4.9%, respectively.
Li pointed out that branding is to achieve the high-quality development of the industry and the way of moving into medium-high end market, for the long-term development, China's leather industry depends on branding strategy and added value of brand. R&D investment is not only a brand's core competitiveness, but also the future development of China leather industry.
