General Situation

According to statistics, from January to June 2025, the sales revenue of key enterprises of China leather industry decreased by 0.8% from the previous year. The Leather industry has an export value of USD 43.23 billion, decreasing by 7.8%, while the imports amounted to USD 7.53 billion, decreasing by 13.6% year-on-year.

Tanning Industry

From January to June 2025, the sales revenue of key tanneries in China reached a total sales revenue of 27 billion RMB, decreased by 6.5% year on year.

From January to June 2025, imports of raw hides and skins were 700,000 tons in quantity, and USD 0.58 billion in value, decreased by 6.2% and 16.4% respectively. 313,000 tons of semi-finished leather were imported, bringing in an increase of 1.7%; imports valued to USD 0.47 billion, decreasing by 10.8% year-on-year. Imports of finished leather were 18,000 tons in quantity, and USD 0.28 billion in value, down by 16.5% and 19.2% respectively year-on-year.

Footwear Industry

From January to June 2025, the sales revenue of key footwear enterprises increased by 0.6% year-on-year. The annual export of footwear products amounted to 4.5 billion pairs in quantity, bringing in a decrease of 0.3%; and USD 21.7 billion in value, decreased by 7.2% year-on-year, while the import of footwear amounted to 90 million pairs in quantity and USD 2.64 billion in value, decreased by 11.6% and 9.7% respectively year-on-year.

Among them, the sales revenue of key leather shoes enterprises decreased by 1.2% year-on-year. The annual exports of leather shoes amounted to 0.25 billion pairs in quantity and USD 3.59 billion in value, up by 0.3% and down by 4.5% over the previous year. The imports of leather shoes amounted to 24.855 million pairs in quantity, and USD 1.12 billion in value, decreasing by 20.8% and 18.8% respectively year on year.

Leather Garment Industry

From January to June 2025, the sales revenue of the key leather garment enterprises increased by 12.6% year-on-year. The annual export of leather garments amounted to USD 48.732 million in value, down by 14.5% over the previous year, while the imports amounted to USD 49.306 million in value, with a decrease of 9.8% year-on-year.

Bags and cases Industry

From January to June 2025, the sales revenue of key bags and cases enterprises decreased by 2.5% comparing to the previous year. The annual export value of bags and cases was USD 15.97 billion, decreasing by 11.2% year-on-year, while the import value of bags and cases was USD 2.54 billion, decreasing by 14.8% year-on-year.
