Bangladesh Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin announced on Wednesday that the government will take steps to support the preservation of rawhides from sacrificial animals during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha until fair prices are guaranteed.

Bashir said 30,000 metric tons of salt will be distributed to madrasas and orphanages to aid in preserving rawhides. “The orphans have rights to the rawhides of sacrificial animals, and we have held high-level meetings to ensure fair pricing,” he stated.

The government also plans to provide training for madrasa and orphanage staff on rawhide handling and preservation, in addition to launching a public awareness campaign that includes the release of an instructional video.

Bashir highlighted that many people are often forced to sell rawhides at low prices during Eid out of concern that they will rot. “This time, that won’t happen,” he said.

The meeting also decided that the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals outside officially designated cattle markets will not be permitted. Discussions included ensuring adequate supply and managing the demand for sacrificial animals.

The commerce adviser further noted that if fair domestic pricing cannot be achieved, the government may consider allowing the direct export of rawhides.
