The leather and footwear industries are expected to bring in around US$26-27 billion in export revenue for the year.
North America makes up 41.4% of these exports for footwear and 47% of handbag exports, while the European Union comprised 29.5% of footwear exports and 25.4% of handbag exports.
The majority of exports – 88.4% – go to the U.S., China, Japan, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Canada, France, Spain, Italy and Australia.
Lefaso General Secretary Phan Thi Thanh Xuan noted that major companies secured contracts through mid-2025 to drive the growth, which has been strong since late 2023.
