In 2022, China totally imported 1.723 million tons of raw hides and skins, semi-finished leather and fur, with a value of 2.74 billion U.S. dollars, down 7.6 percent and 22.5 percent declined from the previous year and 5.8 percent and 14.3 percent from 2019, respectively.
In terms of raw hides and skins, 1.207 million tons of rawhide and skins were imported, with a total value of 1.35 billion US dollars, down 3.1% and 6.9% respectively from the previous year. The cowhide and sheep skins accounted for 99.5% of total import.
Counting by import value, the United States, Australia, the European Union, Canada, New Zealand and Argentina, with a combined share of 90.1%, are the top six countries for China import. The import from the United States, Australia and the European Union, all saw the decline in 2022. The rawhide and skins were mainly imported by the tanneries in Hebei, Fujian, Tianjin, Shandong, Henan provinces and cities.
In 2022, China imported 501,000 tons of semi-finished leather with a total value of $1.02 billion, down 15.8 percent and 18.3 percent from the previous year, and 22.5 percent and 6.2 percent declined compared with 2019, respectively. Brazil, ASEAN, the European Union, the United States, Argentina and Bangladesh, with combined share of 78.9 percent, ranked the the top six for China import.
The imports of raw skins of fur were 11,900 tons with a total value of 35,169 million US dollars, down 37.9% and 72.6% respectively from the previous year.
The European Union accounts for 99.4% of mported raw skins of fur, Finland, Spain, Italy, France and Belgium were five countries that take share of 99.0% of China's total import from the European Union.
In 2022, China imported 2,128.1 tons of finished fur with a total value of US $350 million, and saw a decline of 33.9% and 51.9% over the previous year respectively. The average unit price of imported fur was US $163.1 / kg, down 27.3% year on year. The mink were the main item on the imported fur, accounting for 92.1% of the total imported value of fur.
